A Lolo boy, 10, will be charged in youth court with assault with a weapon, after allegedly holding a broken ruler to a younger boy's throat.

Missoula County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Paige Pavalone said the incident happened earlier in the week at Lolo School.

"The sheriff's department was called to investigate an incident that occurred at Lolo School," Pavalone said. "It involved a 10 year-old and an 8 year-old, both males. They were in the area of the "U" after school, and there was a confrontation, but we're not sure how it got started. The older boy knocked the younger boy down and climbed on top of him. He then brandished a broken ruler and held it to this kid's neck."

Pavalone said any other details are unclear at this point.

"It's not clear if any threats were made, or even why the incident occurred," Pavalone said. "There were other students that witnessed the incident, and a statement was taken from the 8 year-old. The school conducted an investigation, and then called the sheriff's department for assistance. Deputy Prather assisted with the investigation and it is currently ongoing. The young male will be cited for assault with a weapon in youth court."
