Missoula police were called out around 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13th after a couple got into a heated argument that turned violent. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

"Officers were called to meet with a woman who was at a convenience store located near the intersection of Mount and Russell, who had just been involved in a disturbance with a boyfriend. When the the officers arrived they spoke to the female who explained that she had been waiting for her boyfriend to pick her up from work and he was late, and that when he did arrive they began to argue. The argument escalated to the point where the male held her against the wall by the throat with his hand and he applied pressure restricting her ability to breathe every time she attempted to speak."

The male, 19 year old Gregory Mims was later found at his residence in the 700 block of West Sussex, trying to pack up his things. He may have been in a hurry not to get caught as he was already violating parole just by being in Missoula.

"Mr. Mims took the victim's cell phone away from her as he was afraid she might call police,  he was found packing up belongings that belonged to him as well as items that he said he gave to her as gifts. It appears that Mr. Mims is on probation in Billings and as such was not to leave town without permission from his probation officer, it appears thatthey had no idea he was in Missoula.

Mims is now facing three charges including felony probation violation, felony strangulation and a misdemeanor for tampering with the victim’s cell phone.
