As most of us already know, I LOVE to hunt. But, it isn't easy and it is a year round hobby. There is more to hunting than just driving out into a field and picking out the fattest critter you can put your sights on. In western Montana, it is an extreme sport. It is man vs nature. Summer is traditionally the time of ear when most people get into shape for the upcoming fall season. I have been meticulously fine tuning my bow and rifle since the snow started melting this Spring. But, you also have to get the most important tool in your arsenal tuned as well. You got to make sure your body can take on the challenge of chasing an adult elk through their natural habitat. Which usually involves straight up a mountain. Then, if you can manage to bag a critter, can your body handle the job of getting it back home.

Train to Hunt is an event that puts your body though the gauntlet that is hunting in Montana. Much like the numerous 5Ks around the state and the grueling Spartan Race, Train to Hunt takes you through a course that tests to see if you are physically ready for the fall.

The Train to Hunt course involves a foot race through different terrain, as well as weighted packs and all the gear you would normally carry during your hunt. The course also involves 3D archery targets set up in real life hunting scenarios.

The next Montana Train to Hunt event will be held in Butte on July 16-17th. Get more details and register here.
