Consumer Reports posted a list of stuff you should buy for your college student, and a list of stuff you should not.

If you're sending your teen off to the U of M or MSU later this month, you should definitely send them with a microwave, coffee maker, cheap towels and sheets. I've seen college students boil ramen in a coffee pot, so that will most certainly come in handy.

Things you should not send with your student are expensive bedding, an iron, an alarm clock and a mini-fridge. The bedding is bound to get ruined by a variety of activities and no college kid in 2016 is going to use an iron or an alarm clock. Although your student may want the mini-fridge to keep their beverages cold, it takes up too much space in a dorm room.

Happy back to school shopping and good luck!
