A drive along the Bitterroot Mountains between Hamilton and Florence last Wednesday, October 10, provided some magnificent natural scenes. Luckily, Mike Daniels was in the right places at the right times to capture the early sunlight on the fall colors with the freshly snowcovered Bitterroot Mountains framed in a foggy framework.

He also captured the eerie misted ponds of the Lee Metcalf National Wildlife Refuge with the sun barely visible through the fog (see photo below). It was a day to stop and watch the landscape and light change from minute to minute. This week, clear skies will bring out the best in our night skies, and during the day, the colors are still bright and demanding your attention.
