Family, friends and fans all gathered to say goodbye to Malcolm Young today (Nov. 28) as the co-founding AC/DC guitarist was laid to rest at a private ceremony in Sydney, Australia. Among those in attendance at the service were former bandmates Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams and Phil Rudd, along with Rose Tattoo frontman Angry Anderson and singer Jimmy Barnes.

Following the funeral, a visibly saddened Angus Young walked down the steps of St. Mary's Cathedral carrying his older brother's guitar, which had been put on top of the coffin during the ceremony. As the hearse was being prepared, bagpipers played "Waltzing Matilda," a ballad considered the unofficial anthem of the country, according to the Daily Telegraph. Hundreds of fans lined the streets outside the church while the Scots College Pipes and Drums Band played the AC/DC hit "It’s A Long Way To The Top (If You Wanna Rock 'n' Roll)" as the procession departed the cathedral.

Young passed away last weekend (Nov. 18) at the age of 64 after a lengthy battle with dementia, which forced him to step away from AC/DC in 2014. "He loved spending time with his wife and family," family friend Bradley told a local ABC affiliate. "Malcolm has left us all too soon but the spark of his talent..will live on forever."

None of Malcolm's immediate family spoke during the service, but attendees were given a a memorial booklet which included a black guitar pick containing the AC/DC lightning bolt logo and Young's initials on one side, with the other displaying his birth and death dates.

“Malcolm’s family thank you for your love, support and overwhelming outpouring of kindness during this time,” the statement in the booklet, which can be seen below, read. “They ask that you remember Malcolm as a man who was generous and had immense talent. His enormous legacy to his family and music industry worldwide will never be forgotten.”
