Dean Gingerich is no Grinch when it comes to Christmas Lights.

His home at 4412 Spurgin Road at the intersection of Spurgin and Humble Road near the Kelly Island access in Missoula, has been transformed into a high-tech, Las Vegas quality Christmas light show that has been delighting passersby in Missoula for the second straight year.

Gingerich told KGVO News that after he retired several years ago, his wife, Phyllis, told him he needed a hobby, and since family time and togetherness is so important to him, he decided to put his considerable talents to work creating a computer-operated Christmas light and music show.

"We've gotten a real kick out of the reactions of children particularly, when they come to see this 15 minute show," Gingerich said. "I've got about 150 hours into designing this show, with a whole bunch of computers running the lights and music."

Gingerich put computerized lights both on his home and a large tree in the front yard, and when the show starts, both take on a big-city feel.

"The tree has been the big issue," he said. "I just added the tree this year, It takes 55 channels to run the house, but it takes 1,800 channels to run the light show on the tree."

The finale is not to be missed. It is a spectacular combination of lights and music from Handel's 'Hallelujah Chorus'.

There is no admission, and cars park along the roadway to watch the show. On this particular night, Mr. and Mrs. Gingerich, their daughters and sons-in-law and grandchildren handed out candy canes to families watching the show in their cars, and wished them all a very Merry Christmas.

Gingerich said he purchases the computer program in February, then starts putting up lights in October, so there's nearly a year of preparation for each Christmas season.

The show will continue every half-hour from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night through January 3, 2015. Just tune your car radio to 94.3 FM and enjoy the show.

Enjoy, Missoula...and Merry Christmas from the Gingerich family!
