The country of Behrain best be getting ready to party with a rock star, because none other than Andrew W.K. has been named by the U.S. Department of State as a cultural ambassador to the Middle East. He is set to travel to the island nation next month to visit music venues, elementary schools and the University of Bahrain, "all while promoting partying and world peace."

Two virtuous pursuits, indeed!

Andrew, who was extended the offer through a joint partnership between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Manama, Bahrain, is no doubt totally stoked for his upcoming trip. "This is a tremendous invitation," he says via a post on his official website. "I'm very thankful to the Department of State for giving me the opportunity to visit a place I've never been before. And I feel very privileged and humbled by the chance to represent the United States of America and show the good people of Bahrain the power of positive partying. I can hardly wait for this adventure!"

The exact details of his trip are being kept under wraps for security reasons, but expect plenty of coverage when Andrew touches down next month in Behrain.

UPDATE: It looks like Andrew W.K.'s planned trip to Behrain is off. DCist reached out to a State Department spokesperson, who confirmed that the singer was in fact invited to travel to the island nation to make an appearance as a cultural figure, but added that "the embassy determined that [he] was probably not a best choice and didn't meet our standards." The spokesperson also denied reports that Andrew was given the title of "cultural ambassador."

Andrew W.K. is of course disappointed, but rest assured that he will live on to party another day. "I'm just blown away. After a year of planning, the US State Dept. just canceled my Middle East trip because I'm too party," he wrote in one of a stream of Twitter posts about the cancellation. "PARTY TIP: Failure isn't falling down. Failure is staying down when you still have the ability to get back up," he added in another.
