Red Hot Chili Peppers have taken advantage of their unexpected tour break, because of Anthony Kiedis's foot surgery, to come up with new material. Drummer Chad Smith, bassist Flea and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer got together in Los Angeles recently to jam. Smith tells Billboard, "We just rehearsed and came up with some ideas and new song ideas and stuff, and played together for two weeks, and it was really fun... Normally in [the] Chili Peppers world, we never really had this much of a kind of break in a tour. Before, if we had a month off, we would never get together and write song ideas -- we always wrote songs when it was time for an album cycle. But everyone just wanted to play."

More insight into Metallica‘s highly anticipated 3D film: The band just revealed that they’ve chosen director Nimrod Antal (‘Kontroll,’ ‘Vacancy,’ ‘Predators’) and producer Charlotte Huggins (‘Journey 2: The Mysterious Island’) to work with them in creating the film.

According to a press release, “The film will be a marriage of narrative and concert and will star the five members of Metallica: James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo and the fans. It will begin shooting this August and will be released in the summer of 2013.”

Metallica are planning to release more information on the film over the next few months.

Axl Rose clearly doesn’t like to be woken up after an all-night party. After he and Guns N’ Roses raged following an Orlando gig Saturday night, they arrived at Shore Club in Miami Beach on a tour bus Sunday afternoon. While the bleary-eyed band trooped inside the hotel, Rose “refused to get out of the bus for two hours because he was sleeping. When he was escorted upstairs, he asked that the floor-to-ceiling windows in his penthouse be completely blacked out, so he could sleep better.” Or perhaps it was for privacy. Another source tells us that after their Monday night concert in Miami, the band “had a group of people escorted to the penthouse at 3 a.m., and they partied right through to 3 p.m. the next day.”

Good to know Axl still gets out there and rocks it for 12 hours at a time, good stuff.
