Another Day of Forest Fires and More Acreage Burned

Hot and dry conditions have allowed the area forest fires to increase in acreage. So far, evacuations are still in effect for homes around the Sunrise Fire southwest of Superior. That fire has burned over 6,400 acres and is five percent contained. Over 600 people are fighting that fire.

The Lolo Peak Fire has increased in size, too. It had burned 4,336 acres as of Sunday morning, July 30. Contingency fire lines are the main tasks for crews on the north and eastern edges of the fire. Over 400 people are on the fire.

A public Firewise information trailer for the Lolo Peak blaze has been set up at the intersection of Highway 12 and US 93 in Lolo.

The Sapphire Complex of fires by Interstate 90 southeast of Missoula has burned over 10,000 acres, consisting of the Little Hogback, Goat Creek and Sliderock fires.

Remember that Ravalli, Missoula, Granite, Lake, Mineral and Sanders Counties are under Stage II fire restrictions. No campfires.
