The legendary drummer wrote a detailed explanation regarding his decision, adding, “I am sincerely passionate in my desire to play with the band, and I’m very, very sorry that it’s fallen to this.”

Echols is one of the West Memphis Three, a trio of young men who were convicted of murder without solid evidence to back it up. After much support from artists such as Manson and new discoveries such as upgraded DNA testing, which did not place any of the West Memphis Three at the scene of the crime, the three were released last year.
