The Missoula County Sheriff's Department is asking the public to help find the perpetrator of a grocery store theft that occurred on Sunday May 12 at Bronc's Grocery in Frenchtown.

Missoula County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Paige Pavalone says the prime suspect in the case is a woman with a lizard tattoo on her left arm.

"When she entered the store she grabbed a grocery basket, one of those hand held carry around baskets," Pavalone said. "She filled it up with numerous items; she put some steaks in there, six cartons of Marlboro cigarettes, and a bottle of Robitussin cough medicine. She walked around the store with those items and other items in the basket, but she eventually removed most of those items and put them in a large shoulder bag she was carrying."

The suspect did go to the check out counter, but the charge is that she did not pay for all of the items she carried out of the store.

"She went to the register and paid for a few miniscule items - only about $14 or $15," Pavalone said. "She used an EBT card to pay for those items, but she was able to get out of the store with the six cartons of cigarettes and the other merchandise she had taken. All of those things totaled about $425."

Pavalone said the EBT card used during the theft is traceable and authorities are currently checking to see who it belongs too.

The woman is described as having,

  • Mid-length brown hair worn in ponytail
  • Large dark sunglasses
  • Wearing shorts, a tank top, and sneakers (possibly Chuck Taylor's)
  • Tattoos on left shoulder (possibly a band) and chest
  • Shoulder tattoo of a lizard (possibly a salamander)
  • About 20 to 30 years old
  • Shorter, with a thicker build, probably weighing between 135 and 145 pounds

If you have any information about this case please call either the Missoula County Sheriff's Department or Crimestoppers at 721-4444.
