Baby in a Flag – Patriotic or Desecration?

Vanessa Hicks, a photographer in Virginia Beach, recently took photos of her friend's 8-day-old baby in a hammock made from an American flag. Each end of the flag was held by a solider in uniform.

It seemed like a sweet, patriotic sentiment, however not everybody agreed. A Facebook page called "You Call Yourself a Photographer" was launched where thousands of people took the opportunity to bash the photos, the photographer and even the soldier in the pictures.

For the record, Vanessa is a Navy veteran and married to a sailor. She says that she has reached out to high ranking military personnel who told her they didn't feel it was disrespectful as the flag used was a practice flag.
