When Adam ‘MCA’ Yauch of the Beastie Boys passed away earlier this year (May 4), it was a devastating blow to the music community. However, just a few short months later, fans are coming together to celebrate his life.

Yesterday (Aug. 4), a day before what would have been the musician’s 48th birthday, fans organized a walking tour of New York City that planned to visit all the local landmarks instrumental to the Beastie Boys career and subsequently Yauch’s legacy.

The tour kicked off at 9AM EST and included stops at WNYU where the band reportedly met, 100th Street and Broadway where the Beastie Boys played their first show in 1981 on Yauch’s birthday at original guitarist John Berry’s loft and the corner of Rivington and Ludlow where the album cover for ‘Paul’s Boutique’ was photographed. All of the Beastie Boys related location stops are detailed here in addition to why each locale is important to Beastie Boys history.

Judging by the event’s Facebook page, it was a huge success, with fans checking in from all over with thanks and comments about the special day. “This was an amazing experience for me,” said one fan. “I cannot tell you how much it meant to be able to share that time with people for whom you don’t have to search for appropriate words,” posted another. Proof positive that it was a moving experience for all that participated and the power of Adam Yauch lives on.

This isn’t the first time fans have joined forces to honor Yauch though. Earlier this year they rallied to bring ‘MCA Day’ to New York City and were successful with their mission.
