The annual fundraising effort called "Sprinkle Pink" again brought in thousands of dollars for the Aid to Mammography Fund at Hamilton's Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital (MDMH).

the total this year was s$27,967, according to Amy James-Linton of the hospital. That amount was matched by MDMH for a grand total of $55,934. The money will be used to help pay for women who cannot afford a mammogram, and also is being used for follow-up procedures, if necessary. The fund has served almost 1,000 people in the last seven years.

The "Sprinkle Pink" campaign also has been a publicity drive for women to schedule their annual breast exams. Doctors agree that early diagnosis makes a huge difference in treatment.

This year, various high schools held "Pink Pride" football and volleyball games, with pink pom-poms and small pink footballs. The top schools this year were Hamilton and Stevensville.

Top fundraising event this year was the Turn & Burn Barrel Race, organized by Jean Schurman, raising over $8,000. Schurman said over 200 contestants ran the barrels in the annual rodeo event.

Top merchants were Farmers State Bank, Valley Drug and Variety, and Evans Ace Hardware.

Organizers and others celebrated the results last week with a gathering at the hospital. (see photo)
