The Black Keys Make Worst Dressed List for Their MTV Movie Awards Look
We can’t say they didn’t expect this. The Black Keys were undeniably one of the highlights of the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, hitting the stage to perform their roof-raising hit ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ with none other than A-list actor Johnny Depp, who was on hand to accept the Generation Award for, well, being Johnny Depp.
Onstage, the garage rock duo wore their typical rock star garb — jeans and leather jacket for singer-guitarist Dan Auerbach, jeans and a black shirt for drummer Patrick Carney — but when they hit the red carpet before the show, it was a different story.
The dress code at the MTV Movie Awards is much looser than the Academy Awards or even the Grammy Awards, often with a mix of eye-popping craziness and boring casualness — and the Black Keys definitely fell on the latter end of the spectrum. “Yeah, they graciously performed for Johnny Depp’s Generation Award ceremony, but this jumpsuit business needs to stop,” reports ScreenCrush, putting the Keys at the top of their Worst Dressed list for the show.
We’d argue that they were going more for the slumber party chic look than general jumpsuit boorishness — you can’t quite see it in the picture above, but they each have on big bunny slippers at the bottom of their fuzzy blue outfits — but either way, they certainly earned the Worst Dressed title. Luckily, they quickly ditched the slippers and PJs, and reverted to the Keys we know and love well before hitting the stage with Depp.
