It has been a tough winter for the folks on the "highline." Northeastern Montana has seen some huge snow storms, followed by unrelenting winds. This leads to one big mess, involving drifting snow. Crews have been working hard to open up roads and access to communities, but high winds are just drifting the snow back. This problem has sparked concern with Governor Steve Bullock, as whole communities have been literally snowed in.

According to MTN News

Gov. Steve Bullock issued an executive order Monday declaring a state of emergency on the Blackfeet, Fort Belknap, and Northern Cheyenne reservations and in Glacier and Golden Valley counties.

“The safety and security of Montanans must be our top priority. During these challenging winter conditions, we have been and will continue to communicate with local and tribal officials and offer state resources however necessary,” said Gov. Bullock.

USA Today caught word of the blizzards affecting the Blackfeet Tribe, bringing this winter nightmare to the national audience.
