In addition to being one of the vocalists in Butcher Babies, Carla Harvey has several other creative endeavors. She's also an artist and a writer, and her first novel, 'Death and Other Dances,' will be released Aug. 25.

According to the synopsis of the book, which Harvey calls a "raw, graphic work of creative nonfiction," the story centers on Autumn Franklin, an awkward, biracial girl growing up in a suburb of Detroit.

While struggling to connect with others, Autumn builds a stubborn tenacity that serves her well as she transitions from the bowels of the adult entertainment industry to her rebirth as a mortician. It's there that she learns what it is to live, love and to allow others into her world.

Harvey will have a book signing and reading Aug. 28 at Book Soup in West Hollywood, Calif. Pre-sale packages of autographed books and other merchandise are available here. In addition to the book, you can also purchase Harvey's prints, drawings and the 36 page 'Gash,' which includes photos, sketches, journal entries and notes from mortuary college.

Butcher Babies are currently working on the follow-up to 'Goliath.' They'll get back on the road for a headlining tour with Anti-Mortem that kicks off Sept. 27 in Scottsdale, Ariz. Before that, they play shows with Black Label Society on Sept. 12 in Reno, Nev., and Sept. 14 in Santa Cruz, Calif. On Sept. 13, they'll play the Aftershock Festival in Sacramento, Calif..
