Smoke from the Cedar Forest Fire in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness has been coming into the Bitterroot and Missoula valleys.

The fire grew over last weekend and was estimated at 1,371 acres Monday, August 1, according to Jeannette Dreadfulwater of the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests. She said it not threatening life or property and is being monitored daily.

The forest fire, about 23 miles west of the Bitterroot Valley, is 11 miles south of the Powell Ranger Station and smoke is drifting eastward during burning periods. The current fire danger in the Powell Ranger District is Extreme. The Cedar Ridge Trail #6 is closed, due to the fire.
