One of my favorite sayings, when it comes to describing to someone what I am passionate about, I simply say "from the outside looking in, it is hard to understand. But, from the inside looking out, it is hard to explain." That is how I feel about elk hunting. It is hard to describe the feeling you get hunting a bull elk during the rut. It is more than just a sense of adventure. It is something much more than that.

The same goes for trying to explain to someone how an elk thinks. My Dad would always say "Just when you think you are smarter than an elk....smack yourself." It is so true. I have been out smarted by elk more times than I can count.

Recently, our friend Shawn Plakke was a special guest on the Montana Outdoor Radio Show. He described the elk rut, in a way that made so much sense to me. Think of September as a Friday night at the Bar. Hear for yourself how to properly hunt the rut in Montana.
