EPA Awards $400,000 Brownfields Grant to City of Missoula [WATCH]
Missoula Mayor John Engen met with EPA regional director Shaun McGrath on Monday afternoon in a parking lot that once held iconic Missoula businesses like the Fox Theater and the original Mustard Seed restaurant.
McGrath announced that the City of Missoula had received a $400,000 Brownfields grant.
"EPA Brownfields grants will continue to help Missoula transform blighted properties into economic assets," McGrath said. "This is funding that will be available for assessments, for clean-up and for redevelopment work. I'd also say that a dollar in EPA Brownsfield funding usually leverages about $18 in return. In fact, $23 billion dollars nationally has been leveraged out of these grants."
Mayor Engen said the $400,000 will be used for a variety of projects to be determined by the city council and the Missoula Redevelopment Agency.
The site of the news conference will be the subject of a Missoula City Council Committee of the Whole this week to again consider a new hotel and convention center.
