An explosion in a University of Montana apartment complex has sent three people to St. Patrick Hospital, two adults and one infant.

The call came in to 9-1-1 at about 4:15, that an explosion had blown three windows and screens out of both sides of the second floor apartment located on Yreka Court, near the University of Montana Golf Course Clubhouse..

Responding to the scene were the Missoula Police and Fire Departments, the University of Montana Police Department, and the Missoula Drug Task Force.

Sergeant Mike Hebert said the Drug Task Force was called in purely on a precautionary measure, in case there may have been drug activity in the apartment, although none has yet been reported. He also said none of the occupants suffered a life-threatening injury, although one adult did suffer what he called 'flash burns'.

Sergeant J.C. Denton said the fire department declared that the building was not structurally damaged, nor were any of the neighboring apartments.

Denton said the Missoula Police department would be heading the investigation into the incident, to be assisted by the University Police Department and the Missoula City Fire Department. He said more details would be released on Monday.
