Driving under the Influence happens all too frequently on Montana’s roadways, but sometimes the driving is so erratic that the suspect can face felony charges. Missoula Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh says that yesterday morning, July 21, police were notified about an erratic driver during the morning commute.

"Callers reported an erratic driver headed northbound from Florence to Missoula, an officer did discover that vehicle traveling north on Reserve street and made contact with the driver who is identified as 55-year-old Chris Christanson," Welsh said.

Christianson received a DUI charge, and a felony charge for Criminal Endangerment.

"Three of the complainants who called 911, did so after seeing the vehicle drive up on the concrete median, swerving into oncoming traffic, and nearly striking other vehicles," Welsh said.

A DUI can be a felony offense in and of itself, if it happens to be a drivers fourth or subsequent DUI, but that was not the case this time. Christanson also received added charges for failing to notify a change of address and failing to display registration as required.
