Missoula Rural Fire responded to a single family residence structure fire just after 7:30 Sunday morning at 15275 Thayer Road, just outside Lolo.

Acting Fire Chief Mike Bowman said when crews arrived at the scene, all the residents had safely left the home and no injuries were reported.

"A neighbor was driving by and noticed smoke coming from the roof of the home, so he stopped and pounded on the door and woke up the residents who all got out safely, because they didn't know the house was on fire," Bowman said. "The first arriving unit reported heavy smoke coming from the eaves of the home. The fire was contained to the attic. The fire was declared officially out a little after 9:00 a.m."

Bowman said several agencies responded to the fire.

"Along with our battalion chief, we had two Type One engines from Missoula Rural Fire District, and a mutual aid water tender from the Florence Fire Department," Bowman said.

There were 14 firefighters on the scene during the height of the operation, and as of noon on Sunday, fire investigators were on the scene working to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Bowman said the Red Cross was contacted to assist the residents. because the house was uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage.
