In a new two-minute trailer for the Foo Fighters’ upcoming HBO series 'Sound City,' the band discusses their different approach to songwriting on the album. The trailer, titled ‘A Conversation with the Foo Fighters About Sonic Highways,’ also features the group explaining the meaning behind the title of their upcoming effort and why they went to eight different cities to record it.

Dave Grohl explains in the clip that after he finished the 'Sound City' movie, he had the idea to “go all over the country and make a record where each song was recorded in a different studio.” The band talks about choosing the some of the cities where they recorded the effort including Seattle, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York and Los Angeles.

Grohl explains that in each studio they would record an instrumental track and he would go interview famous musicians from that city. Afterwards, Grohl would take the interviews and use them to write lyrics for the song. He says, “If you go to Nashville you have to talk to Dolly [Parton], if you go to Austin you have to talk to Willie [Nelson], if you go to New York you have to talk to Chuck D.” Grohl adds he also interviewed Slash, LL Cool J, Joan Jett, Mike D, Buddy Guy and Bonnie Raitt, saying, “It’s all over the map.”

The Foo Fighters frontman explains at the end of each episode fans will “recognize all of these references from stories you’ve heard in the last hour." He also explained the meaning behind the show and their upcoming album, “The whole Sonic Highways concept came up out of trying to explain it’s those sonic highways that connect all these people and places together.”
