It shall henceforth be known as "Foo Friday" as Foo Fighters enjoyed what is likely to be one of the most memorable days of their career. Oct. 17 brought a satisfying conclusion to the band's weeklong residency on 'Late Show With David Letterman,' the premiere of their 'Sonic Highways' series on HBO and concluded with a memorable webcast show from Chicago's Cubby Bear for Foo fans.

As with most late night shows, the group actually taped their appearance in advance of its airing. The group's final 'Late Show With David Letterman' appearance included a special Foo Fighters Top 10 delivered by the band as well as a performance of the new single 'Something From Nothing' featuring special guest Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. The 'Top 10' consisted of things Foo Fighters would like to say after spending a week at 'Late Show.' We won't give away the full list, but there is an especially humorous moment shared between guitarist Pat Smear and Letterman announcer Alan Kalter that's worth your look. As for the performance with Nielsen, it's an especially blistering rendition putting the perfect cap on the music week. The video footage, along with a recap video of the Foo Fighters' week on 'Letterman,' can be seen below.

The centerpiece of Friday was the debut of the band's 'Sonic Highways' series, which kicked off in Chicago. In the HBO episode, particular attention was paid to the city's legendary blues scene, with Buddy Guy serving as the primary interviewee, and the punk scene that launched bands such as Naked Raygun. We also learn that a barely teen Dave Grohl caught Naked Raygun with his cousin at Chicago's Cubby Bear and that played a big part in his musical growth. The other big part of the initial episode was a look at producer Steve Albini and his Chicago-based studio. Albini produced Nirvana's 'In Utero' disc. And while visiting Albini's studio, you get to see them lay down 'Something From Nothing' with Nielsen in attendance.

After the episode concluded, Grohl and his Foo Fighters cohorts brought it all together by revisiting the Cubby Bear, the site of his first punk show, for a webcast performance. The set featured guest appearances by Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen, who reprised his guest spot on 'Something From Nothing' and rocked out 'Stiff Competition' and 'Surrender' with the band, and Naked Raygun singer Jeff Pezzati joining the band on 'Surf Combat.'

The evening also included a healthy dose of Foo Fighters standards, a few lesser-known cuts like 'Up in Arms' and 'Cold Day in the Sun' and a stellar cover of Rolling Stones' 'Miss You.' Check out a couple of clips and peruse the setlist provided below.
