Fast work from firefighters has kept the Blacktail Canyon Fire at about five acres.

The forest fire in dead, standing trees about 4 miles southeast of Butte, was reported Wednesday afternoon near Homestake Pass.

According to Leona Rodreick of the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest, crews have built fireline around two-thirds of the fire and the weather seems to be cooperating today, helping the firefight. No injuries reported.

Two fire engines and a water tender are on the lines, along with the Helena Hotshots. Rodreick said the City-County Butte-Silverbow and Beacverhead-Deerlodge National Forest teams have joined forces to fight this early season fire.

Northwestern Energy is repairing powerlines that were damaged by the forest fire.
