George Simmons Is Back in the Bitterroot Valley

Thursday afternoon, June 116, 2016, the remains of U.S. Army Corporal George Simmons finally came back to Montana.

In 1942, Simmons was captured on Corregidor in the Philippines during World Ward II and died in a Japanese POW camp.

Only recently were his remains identified by DNA and plans were made to bring him home. The casket was flown to Spokane, Washington, and a motorcade brought him through Idaho into Montana, through Missoula, Lolo, Florence and Corvallis to the Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton.

His body will remain there until Saturday, when at 10 a.m., he will be taken to the Corvallis Cemetery for burial.
