Godsmack's debut album was a huge one for the band and while playing full albums on tour has become a way for bands to celebrate past works, Sully Erna is dialing back talk of Godsmack doing that in 2018 to revisit their 1998 self-titled debut.

Speaking with Minneapolis 93X host Lyndsy Marie at the recent Northern Explosion festival, Erna stated, "We don't know that yet. That's been circulating because I opened my mouth a little bit soon, but as we get deeper into writing this new record that may change. So we're not making any promises on that yet."

Just last month, Erna had told a Houston radio station 94.5 The Buzz that it was something the band was considering, stating, “We wanna create a big world tour, we’re gonna do a massive production, we’re gonna kinda base it around the theme of the first record. We’re even talking about coming out and doing the first record front-to-back to open the show, set up the staging a little bit more old school and stuff like that and then kinda morph it into the back half of the set which would be the hits and solo and new stuff and whatever."

Later, in his 93X interview, Erna also spoke about the possibility of new music from the band coming soon, but revealed that 2017 may no longer be in the plan. "We wanted to do something this year, but we were just, like, 'You know, let's just wait another second,' because if we release this at the top of 2018, it will be our 20th-year anniversary of the first record, and we wanna do something special," said the singer. You can watch the interview in full above.

So while it appears that Godsmack are saving their bigger plans for 2018, the band is filling their 2017 with the occasional festival appearance while also working on their new album. To see their current tour schedule, check here.
