Green Day Played an Epic Three-Hour Show in Cleveland

Green Day will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame tomorrow (April 18) alongside Lou Reed, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Bill Withers and more. The trio celebrated by playing their first U.S. show in two years at Cleveland’s House of Blues last night (April 16), treating concertgoers to an expansive, three-hour set (check out a clip of "Holiday" above).

The show kicked off with a set under the band’s original name, Sweet Children, and featured an appearance from original drummer John Kiffmeyer, who was replaced by current drummer Tré Cool in the early ‘90s. According to Rolling Stone, they played early cuts, including the eponymous “Sweet Children” and “Dry Ice” -- check out the former in a fan-shot video below:

The rest of the show traversed Green Day’s nearly 30-year career with a handful of covers thrown in for good measure, including Rancid’s “Radio” and Operation Ivy’s “Knowledge,” for which frontman Tim Armstrong made a cameo. Watch them perform the latter below:

Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong recently expressed his excitement to join the ranks of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, saying, “For me, rock and roll is not an outdated term. To me, it means freedom… it’s just the most liberating thing in the world… the fact that we’re getting recognized for it in the company we have, it’s just an incredible feeling.”
