If you try to guess what GWAR are going to do next, you're probably going to be wrong most times. Recently, the group appeared on The Howard Stern Show to perform an extremely unexpected cover of Maroon 5's "Harder to Breathe."

GWAR showed up for 'Stern' as a nice surprise after Maroon 5 themselves came out to the show. The pop favorite sounds pretty hilarious as filtered through the heavy metal machine of GWAR. The slight funk of the original turns into metal grooves in its new form, with the band playing at breakneck speeds. They only had time to play a chunk of the song's beginning, but nonetheless came up with a fun, heavy cover.

The Scumdogs of the Universe are no strangers to covering unexpected songs. A couple of years ago, they appeared on A.V. Undercover, and performed their take on the Pet Shop Boys track "West End Girls," as well as Jim Carroll's "People Who Died." Covers have been in the group's blood, and in the past they've expressed interest in releasing an entire album of them.

Tragic news befell GWAR last week, as it was revealed guitarist Michael Derks, aka Balsac the Jaws O' Death has been diagnosed with a cancerous bone marrow disorder. Fans who wish to help out Derks can do so right here. Despite this, the band is continuing their North American tour in support of their recent album The Blood of the Gods. Dates can be found here.
