A Huson man lost control of his passenger car on I-90 near Alberton Monday evening and was killed in the one-vehicle rollover crash.

Captain Rob Taylor with the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office released the man’s name after his family was notified. Jeffrey Porter, 59, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

“I was called out to the crash site at about 7 p.m. on Monday night as the on-call County Coroner, and when I arrived I met with three Montana Highway patrol troopers,” Taylor said. “It was a single vehicle crash with one occupant and the accident happened near mile marker 80.”

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Luke Berson was the investigating officer.

“The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on I-90 when he lost control of his 2000 Toyota Camry around a curve and left the roadway,” Burson said. “He struck a delineator post and want back across the highway, rolling the vehicle once, with the vehicle ending up on it’s wheels in the westbound lane. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, and was ejected from the vehicle. Passersby stopped to provide assistance until fire department EMT’s could arrive to provide CPR, but the man was pronounced dead on the scene.”

Trooper Burson said speed was definitely a factor in the fatal crash.

“Yes, speed was a factor, and we are also investigating to see if the driver may have been on some sort of prescription medication, as well,” Burson said.
