The ice is here and is thick enough to fish. Tis the season to go sit on some hard water and rip some lips. The folks at Missoulian Angler Fly Shop have some great updates on fish biting around the Missoula area.

According to the MAFS Facebook update

Georgetown Lake
6-7" of ice. Kokanee early morning in 16-19 feet of water bite has been productive with the occasional trout. If you are strictly targeting trout then try that 10-13 feet of water which has been pretty consistant throughout the day but early morning will be more productive.

Browns Lake: 5" of ice
Harpers Lake: 5" of ice
Browns and Harpers Lake fish pretty similar this time of year. Look for the 12-16 feet of water for trout that can top 30 inches.

Traditional ice jigs work good but we tend to fish flies such as the Payczech, Case Caddis Czech, Flash Scud, Northfork Prince, Frenchy and our favorite that we have used for years and now will be tying them for the shop is The Mangler Scud Jig.

We have a few more reports from other lakes but these are some of the more popular ones that have good ice at this point in the season.
