A rainy forecast would not be good for University of Montana's outdoors Commencement ceremonies Saturday.

The main ceremony will be at 10 a.m. in the open-air Washington-Grizzly Stadium - rain or shine, according to the UM Office of the Registrar in a news release Thursday.

If the raindrops start to fall, audience members will be allowed to use umbrellas in designated areas of the stadium. Graduating students, however, will not be allowed umbrellas. Their mortarboard caps might be a little soggy by the end of the ceremony.

A heavy rainfall will move the audience inside to watch the online live stream of the commencement at any of a number of venues:

  • The North underground lecture hall
  • Urey Lecture Hall
  • Charles Clapp Building room 131
  • Chemistry Building room 123
  • Liberal Arts Building Room 11
  • Social Sciences Building rooms 352 and 356
  • McGill Hall room 210
  • Just the threat of rain has caused some other changes in individual school ceremonies, which will follow the general Commencement - some at 12 noon and others at 2 p.m.

  • Environmental Studies Program to North Underground Lecture Hall
  • Department of History to Gallagher Business Building room 106
  • Liberal Studies Program to Liberal Arts room 11
  • School of Journalism to the urey Underground Lecture Hall
  • Two school ceremonies will be outside:

  • Department of Communication Studies at Brantly Hall south lawn
  • Department of Geosciences at Clapp Building southeast lawn.
  • No tickets or reservations are required for the main ceremony. However, some schools are requiring tickets for their separate ceremonies.

Washington Grizzly Stadium will open at 8 a.m. Graduates will line up at the UM Oval at 8:45 a.m. and will begin the procession to the stadium at 9:30 a.m.
