Jane’s Addiction Cover David Bowie’s ‘Rebel Rebel’ at Sterling Spoon Anniversary Tour Kickoff Show

Last night (July 15), Jane's Addiction kicked off their Sterling Spoon tour in honor of the 25th anniversary of Ritual de lo Habitual at the Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn, N.Y. In addition to playing that record in its entirety, they also covered David Bowie's "Rebel Rebel," which you can watch above.

The nine-song take on Ritual de lo Habitual made up the entire main set, with "Rebel Rebel" kicking off the encore. Setlist says that they performed the Bowie classic on four other occasions last month while in Europe. Jane's Addiction did three other tunes -- "Mountain Song," "Ted, Just Admit It..." and "Jane Says" -- on the night.

Coincidentally, Bruce Springsteen played "Rebel Rebel" -- also in the encore -- when he began his tour where he, too, performed one of his milestone albums, The River, from start to finish. That concert took place in January, a week after Bowie's death.

Dinosaur Jr.'s opening set focused largely on their past, including hits like "Start Choppin'" and "Feel the Pain," they also played two songs -- "Goin Down" and "Tiny" -- from Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not, which will be released on Aug. 5. They closed with a cover of the Cure's "Just Like Heaven."

Beginning July 19, Living Colour will join the tour, giving fans a trio of late-'80s-early-90s guitar rock. You can get all the dates, which run through the end of July, at Jane's Addiction's website.
