Joey Jordison + Daath, Dragonforce, Mayhem Members Form Sinsaenum, Release Music Video

After remaining largely silent for the last couple years, Joey Jordison is back in a big way in 2016. The former Slipknot drummer recently announced his new band, Vimic, and now he's partnered with DragonForce bassist Frederic Leclercq to deliver the death metal outfit Sinsaenum and a music video for their new song "Army of Chaos."

Rounding out the duo is vocalist Attila Csihar (Mayhem, Sunn O)))), vocalist Sean Zatorsky (Daath, Chimaira) and guitarist Heimoth (Seth). The project was spearheaded by Leclerq, who told Team Rock, “I’ve been a death metal fan ever since and wrote some of these songs already in 1998, so it’s something I always wanted to do. There was never the right time though, nor did I find the proper people to pull it off." As to how he landed Jordison behind the kit, the bassist simply stated, "Joey sent me an SMS to ask what I was up to, so I told him about those death metal songs."

As for the song "Army of Chaos," it's centered around an upbeat rhythm that is drowned in dissonance, giving a playful edge to the motif. With a heavy emphasis on groove, Jordison's specialty, Sinsaenum employ understated melodies to accent the riffing, serving as one of the song's hooks. Comparisons can be drawn to some of Destroyer 666's tamer moments and Satyricon's "Fuel for Hatred" with nods to Behemoth in the back half of the song.

Sinsaenum will release Echoes of the Tortured on July 29 through Ear Music. Talking about the album, Leclercq said, "I wish to take the listener on a journey. Everything is interconnected, so you may pick particular songs, but it’s meant to be listened to as a whole. Today with iTunes and whatnot, people are choosy, whereas this is supposed to be an all-encompassing experience, forcing you to take it in as one piece of art, which is because I come from a time when you still put on a record and stuck to it until it was over."

Jordison's other new band Vimic has released two songs, "Simple Skeletons" and "She Sees Everything" with their Open Your Omen debut expected to arrive later this year.
