When Korn, Rob Zombie and In This Moment all get together to put on a concert, does it sound like one you want to miss? Definitely not, especially when new music is to be heard. With Rob Zombie just releasing a new album, The Electric Warlock Acid Witch Satanic Orgy Celebration Dispenser, and Korn’s The Serenity of Suffering on it’s way, you go to the show! Not to mention the fact that In This Moment’s Maria Brink has a voice to die for and the band puts on a show that just can’t be beat.

We checked out "Return of the Dreads" tour's stop in Phoenix, Ariz., on Saturday, July 23. Security could be heard telling fans, “Take off your chains and leave any lighters in your car!” as doors opened and tickets were scanned promptly at 5:30PM for the show that was to start at 6:30. That didn’t stop a huge bonfire on the lawn from erupting about halfway into Rob Zombie’s set (but we’ll get into that later). Concertgoers were let in through the gates, many finding their way to their seats, others who had pit tickets bunched up against the security gate, and finally the stragglers set up shop on the grass to watch what was going to be an epic show.

In This Moment took stage shortly after 6:30PM, and what a show it was. Undergoing at least four outfit changes during the band's brief six song set, and with her voice bellowing into the crowd, Maria Brink gave the fans a big taste of her performing power. Guitarist Chris Howorth is back in action after a neck injury sidelined him in the spring, and the band busted out hits like "Sick Like Me," "Sex Metal Barbie," "Whore" and "Blood," getting fans pumped for the headliners to come.

The sweltering heat was no deterrent for the crowd as Rob Zombie, Piggy D, Ginger Fish and John 5 took their respective places onstage. Nor was the fact that Rob Zombie was hoarse that night a hindrance, as he coughed and stated, “I seem to be losing my voice tonight.” He ran the stage like a champ, belting out classics like, “Living Dead Girl”, “Superbeast”, and “More Human Than Human,” and also busted out the White Zombie classic “Thunder Kiss ‘65”.

What really got the crowd soaring was when John 5 played “The Star-Spangled Banner” using his teeth, then going into “We’re an American Band” (Grand Funk Railroad cover). The visuals all the while mesmerizing concertgoers, as Piggy D and John 5 traded places behind Rob Zombie onstage. A glow could be seen from the lawn as fans had set trashcans ablaze (as we mentioned earlier). Seemingly unfazed by security dousing the fire, and the concertgoers with water, the show continued on.

The heat was finally getting to fans as security was handing out water to whoever was near. Finally up, and definitely not forgotten, however, was Korn. The stage went dark at the venue, and screams could be heard of “Korn, Korn, Korn” from the crowd as silhouettes of figures could be made out on the platforms. Suddenly, white and blue lights lit up and Jonathan Davis could be seen grasping his famous H.R. Giger microphone.

Opening their set with “Right Now” from the album Take a Look in the Mirror, Korn wasted no time getting into things. Ray Luzier was lit up by enormous lights at the back of the stage, and beat away at his kit in time with Munky on guitar, Fieldy plucking away on bass, and Head riffing along, as the band played songs ranging from “Narcissistic Cannibal” to “Blind,” “Got The Life” and their new single “Rotting in Vain”, from the upcoming album The Serenity of Suffering. The band finished out the night with the hit “Freak on a Leash,” as well as with a huge crowd thank you and acknowledgement, tossing guitar picks and throwing out drum sticks.

A long night of metal and moshing left concertgoers drained, yet juiced from all the activity. A calm was left over Ak-Chin Pavilion in Phoenix as fans made their way to their cars, having been totally rocked by three dynamic acts.
