David Letterman has a close relationship with the Foo Fighters and has supported them since they became a band in 1995. When Dave Grohl had the idea to record a 'love letter to American music' and create a series for HBO, he called his long time friend David Letterman for advice and guidance.

With the 'Foo Fighters: Sonic Highways' series debut coming to HBO this Friday and the new album dropping on November 10th, Letterman invited the Foo to be the musical guest every night this week on Late Night. We've been posting the videos of the performances featuring special guests who also appear on the album.

Last night (Wednesday) the special guest was New Orleans blues artist Tony Joe White. When the performance and episode was over, David Letterman took to the stage to share a very touching story with the studio audience.

He spoke of his love and relationship with the Foo Fighters and shared a story about when his son Harry was just 4 years old. At the time Letterman was in his early 60's and they decided to try skiing for the very first time. A friend of his took video of the experience in Montana and used the Foo Fighters song 'Miracle'. Letterman teared up telling the story and then the band did a beautiful rendition of the song from their album 'In Your Honor'.

Earlier in that episode, the silly Foo boys did this skit on the Late Night show. We should have their new single "Something From Nothing" on the air this afternoon.
