The Lolo Peak Fire, burning at the northeastern edge of the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, is about 750 acres in size. The Type 1 Incident Command team has set up operations at the Florence-Carlton School.

Two public meetings are planned this week to explain the fire fighting strategy.

The first meeting will be Monday, July 24, at the Lolo Elementary School cafeteria. It starts at 7 p.m.

The second meeting will be Tuesday, July 25, at the Stevensville High School multi-purpose room at 7 p.m..

The fire is in both the Lolo and Bitterroot National Forests. Crews are working on a primary control line between the South Fork of Lolo Creek and Mill Creek.

Bass Creek Trail and Sweeney Trail are among areas closed to the public.

To the east of the Bitterroot Valley, the Little Hogback, Sliderock and Goat Creek fires continue to grow. They are west of Interstate 90 about 25 miles southeast of Missoula. As of Sunday, the Little Hogback was 2,095 acres, Sliderock was 385 acres and Goat Creek was 1,319 acres. Area closures include Rock Creek Road, Brewster Creek road, Sliderock Mountain Road and numerous trails.

Smoke continues to drift into the valley from the Moose 1 Fire in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. At last report, it was 862 acres. Much of the smoke was coming through Lost Horse Canyon and canyons south of that.
