A Missoula man, Bo Standish, has been charged with felony assault with a weapon after allegedly beating his spouse with a lanyard attached to a shock collar, and then strangling her and punching her as she attempted to escape.

Court documents indicate that Standish, 36, got into an argument with his spouse over finances and began beating her with a lanyard that was attached to a dog's shock collar. The victim said that Standish then threw her to the ground and stomped on her back and legs. He then lifted her up and choked her until she couldn't breathe.

The victim was able to escape the home and contact police. Standish ran into the home, locked the door, and refused to come out for over an hour. Police talked him into surrendering, and he was arrested.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Selene Koepke asked Judge Karen Orzech for $20,000 bail.

"The defendant and his spouse have had two recent domestic violence incidents, on August 2nd and August 13th of this year," Koepke said. "On the 13th the victim said the defendant strangled her as he did in this incident, and because we know there is a high fatality rate in multiple strangulations, the defendant is deemed to be dangerous to the victim if he is allowed out of jail."

Judge Orzech set bail at $20,000 and said that Standish may under no circumstances have any contact with the victim. He was remanded back to the jail, and his next court appearance will be November 2.
