Man Charged With DUI – Negligent Vehicular Assault [DOCUMENT]

Early Sunday morning, Joshua Sakievich, 23, was arrested and charged with DUI, Aggravated Vehicular Assault and several other misdemeanors after allegedly driving his vehicle into a ditch just off the Frenchtown Frontage Road, causing a juvenile passenger to strike her head and lose consciousness, and to suffer a seizure.

According to court documents, Sakievich and a friend left the vehicle after it went off the road. Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Shawn Silvan made contact with the two men walking about a mile from the accident scene. One man fled, while Silvan conducted an interview with Sakievich and determined that he had been driving while intoxicated.

The court documents indicate there were two juveniles in the vehicle, with the initials C.L. and P.J. The minor girl, C.L., was treated at St. Patrick Hospital, and told authorities that she was not wearing a seat belt and struck her head causing unconsciousness that led to a seizure. She told authorities that the adults in the vehicle had been consuming alcohol that night.

Sakievich appeared in Missoula Justice Court Monday afternoon via video from the Missoula County Jail charged with Negligent Vehicular Assault, a felony, along with misdemeanor DUI, obstructing a peace officer and failure to give notice of an accident by the quickest means.
