Man Rescues Dog, Ends Up Getting Arrested For His Trouble
It is often said no good deed goes unpunished. Elvis Hernandez can tell you all about that.
The locksmith was on a job in Kerrville, Texas a few months ago when he noticed a dog wondering around in the middle of the street.
“It was cute. It was running in the middle of the road. He didn’t have tags; didn’t have a collar,” Hernandez of the dachshund.
Being a dog lover, Hernandez took the pooch home after giving his customer his address so he could be contacted if anybody in the neighborhood claimed the dog.
Unfortunately the dachshund didn’t get along with his other dogs. So after weeks had gone by, he gave the dog away.
And that’s when the dog’s orginal owner tracked Hernandez down. “I just explained to her that I didn’t have it. I didn’t know where it was, and I apologized,” he said.
Apparently an apology wasn’t good enough, because the woman contacted the police and Hernandez was arrested for theft of property.
He was booked in front of his children and has lost his locksmith license because of the arrest.
“Not only did they attack my name, they attacked my livelihood. And being a single dad with children it hurts a lot,” Hernandez told KENS-TV.
While this all certainly sounds like an unfortunate situation, do you think an arrest was necessary?
