Marilyn Manson says that he and Trent Reznor have “mended ways” and even hinted at a possible collaboration with the Nine Inch Nails frontman, ending their long-running estrangement. Interestingly, it was the recent HBO series The Defiant Ones, which focuses on the relationship between rapper Dr. Dre and Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine, that brought the two back together.

“I liked The Defiant Ones because it also made me think about Trent and made me reach out to him because he’s the one who actually sent me an e-mail and we had sort of mended ways after a long time,” Manson Tells Zane Lowe on Beats 1 Radio. “He emailed me and said, ‘So, I’m just passing this along from Jimmy, so I can say I did it.’ He goes, something along the lines of, ‘Even if it pisses me off that music’s not dangerous anymore, it reminds me of how great you were and I was and that era.”

Manson then reflects on how it was Reznor who first signed him after the two met when the former interviewed him.

“Understand it was obviously huge to me,” Manson continues. “And to have Trent Reznor, meet him and interview him and him sign me [changed] my life. All of the past any sort of squabbles or any arguments just went away just seeing that in The Defiant Ones and him telling me about it.”

Asked if he would like to collaborate with Reznor again in some respect, Manson said yes and that the two bands would be performing a show together soon – perhaps referring to the Aftershock festival next month in Sacramento, Calif.

“Yeah, absolutely, I mean we’re playing a show with them, and uhh…It’s two nights in a row, and we’ve been speaking about things,” Manson says. “I don’t know what will happen. I would love to…I mean he taught me how to do a lot of things…he taught me a lot of what I know about music, so…”

Manson’s new album, Heaven Upside Down, is out Oct. 6 and can be pre-ordered here. Manson will be busy in the latter portion of 2017, hitting the road in support of the album. Dates can be found here.
