Meals on Wheels Is One Of Six to Receive National Grant

Meals on Wheels of the Missoula Aging Services, received a $5,000 grant at their national March for Meals Event this passed March. Nutrition Program Manager Curtis Hammond said receiving the grant was not all that surprising.

“We were one of the grant we were one of six in the nations that received a grant totaling  in $5,000 and we that’s a pretty big deal for us,” Hammond said. “To coin a phrase, we knock it out of the ball park each year. So it doesn’t surprise me that we were among the top rewards earners.”

According to Hammond the community around Missoula is what made the grant possible.

“They really look at community involvement and that really is what meals on wheels really looks at ‘What have you done to engage your community,’” Hammond said. “I’ve always said that we are really blessed in Missoula. We have really civic minded community here, our community really does rally around us and we are able to do so much more because of that.”

Hammond said the money will go right back into the meal programs and will help prepare around seven hundred meals for Meals on Wheels recipients in the Missoula Area.
