Faith No More drummer Mike Bordin was part of Ozzy Osbourne's solo band from 1996 to 2010, and as such, he was also part of the infamous 2002 re-recordings of the drum and bass parts on Ozzy's classic Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman albums. In a new interview with Radio.com, Bordin admits, "That was really kind of a f—ed up thing."

Bordin and Robert Trujillo (bass) re-recorded Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley's parts for the 2002 reissues of Ozzy's first two albums, a decision that is believed to be spearheaded by Sharon Osbourne following a legal battle with Kerslake and Daisley. The songs were eventually restored for the 30th anniversary editions of Blizzard of Ozz and Diary of a Madman.

"That wasn’t what I was going in expecting to do [when I went into the studio to record those tracks]," Bordin recalls. "So, that’s all I’ll say about it, I’m not ever going to throw anyone under the bus, ever. But when it turned out that that’s what the reason was [for re-recording those tracks]… I never knew that. That doesn’t lessen the fact that it happened. But that wasn’t the way that it was presented to me at all."

Bordin continues, "It was weird. I will say this: to hear the original guitar, bass and drum tracks in my headphones while I was recording, was one of the most insane things that I will probably ever experience. I also think I heard some guitar solos that I’d never heard before. There’s a reason why those albums are so good, and why people love them so much. They’re magical. That’s down to all the guys who made those albums. Far be it from me to ever want to f--- with that. It’s something to be treasured."

He also talked about leaving Ozzy's band when Faith No More re-formed. "I really thought, at first, that we’d [Faith No More] just do a few shows and it would be fun," Bordin says. "As they went on, Sharon [Osbourne], she knew, she’s f—ing smart. She knew that I’d leave way before I knew. She said, 'You’ve got to do this. I’ll be pissed off at you if you don’t.'"

"That wasn’t even what I really wanted to hear, because I liked playing with Ozzy, I enjoyed it!" Bordin exclaims. "But she was right. I’m super proud that I did it for 15 years, that’s a long time in that world. I’ll be eternally glad for that opportunity."

Faith No More's new album Sol Invictus was released this week. The band's tour dates for the rest of the year include a European run that begins later this month with more North American dates beginning July 26 in Austin, Texas.
