Missoula – Are You Ready for Winter?
Am I the only one who wants to play hookie from work at least one day this week? This early snowfall is making me want to stay home and curl up with a cup of hot chocolate and a good book in front of a roaring fire.
It seems like I’ve been waiting so long for fall to finally get here. Now it seems that we’ve skipped fall and moved straight on to winter. I was really looking forward to at least a month of mid-sixty and low-seventy degree temperatures. That doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen now.
I have to admit that it has been fun to dig out my winter clothes that I haven’t seen for months and show them off. I had forgotten how comfy a baggy sweatshirt is, and how cozy my feet feel in my fuzzy snow boots. Did I mention how nice it is to wear pants every day? I love putting the shorts away this time of year. It means I can forget about keeping my toes perfectly manicured and my legs clean shaven.
I enjoy the colder weather because it means that I can eat stews, soups and chilis for dinner. I also don’t have to worry about how hot the house is going to get when I’m cooking dinner. There were a few times this summer that I’m pretty sure my house was hotter inside because of what I was cooking, than it was outside.
I’m trying to look at this early snow and cold positively, especially if it’s going to stick around for a while.
