Standing in front of the store's handgun display case, Oschner says for customers looking for personal protection, especially those who are novices, that a revolver is a good choice. He also recommended a shotgun for home protection. Oschner was quick to add that no one should purchase or use a firearm without expert instruction.

He said there are several organizations and individuals that can offer firearms instruction, and the Missoula County Sheriff's Department has information that may be helpful in finding instruction.

One handgun Oschner recommends for home protection is the Smith and Wesson .38 special. He says any reputable firearms dealer can assist a customer in the choice of a weapon and instruction.
