A Missoula man, Christopher Colligan, 24, is in the Missoula County Jail on $5,000 bond charged with assault with a weapon after an apparent road rage incident that occurred on Sunday, April 14.

Court documents indicate that Colligan and another driver, identified as Peter Travis, were both driving near the intersection of Russell and South 5th Street West. According to the affidavit, "Travis identified Colligan as the driver who cut in front of him on 5th Street, and, while their cars were stopped at a traffic light, responded to Travis shouting'what's the rush', by pointing a gun at him and firing one shot. Moments later, according to Travis, 5 or 6 more shots were fired at him by the defendant as they were driving 5th."

Colligan was arrested and an air soft pistol was found in the front console of his vehicle, a green Mitsubishi. The officer who first saw the weapon stated, "it appeared to be a black semi-automatic hand gun with a silencer attached to the end of the barrel. From my perspective, I did not notice any clear markings on the gun that would identify it as an air soft gun as opposed to being a real handgun."

Colligan appeared in justice court Monday on several charges, including felony assault with a weapon and several unrelated misdemeanors. He remains in the Missoula County Jail on $5,000 bond. No one was injured in the incident.
