36 year-old Michael Romas is in the Missoula County Jail charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Partner or Family Member Assault after allegedly beating and strangling his wife, and assaulting his father-in-law.

Deputy Missoula County Attorney Brittany Santorno asked Judge Marie Anderson for $40,000 bail.

"This defendant hit his wife twice in the face giving her a black eye," Santorno began. "He also strangled her and threw her to the ground in front of their two year-old child. When the victim's father arrived to help his daughter, the defendant grabbed him by the throat and punched him, as well."

Santorno said Romas has a history of violent assaults.

"This is the defendant's third and fourth partner and family member assault, and he's also being charged with aggravated assault," she continued. "It's clear that this defendant presents an extreme danger to the victim, as well as her family members. Along with no contact with the victim or her children, we also request he be placed on GPS monitoring if he is released from custody."

The victim's father asked the judge to hold his son-in-law without bail, because of the treatment his daughter has received at the hands of the defendant.

Judge Anderson set bail at $40,000, and remanded Romas back to the jail. His next court appearance will be September 14.
