Missoula authorities responded to the intersection of Reserve and Mullan Road at about 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 11 for an apparent suicide.

Missoula Police department Public Information Officer Travis Welsh said Missoula Police, Fire and Emergency services responded to a report of a possible injury accident. When they arrived, police found an unresponsive female locked inside the vehicle who was holding a handgun in one of her hands.

A witness at the scene said the woman had shot herself.

Police forced the vehicle open to allow Emergency Medical Responders access to render aid to the female victim.

An investigation is currently underway, and police are asking any drivers or pedestrians to avoid the area due to the large response by emergency vehicles.

Welsh said the woman was transported to a local hospital, for organ harvest.

No name has been released pending notification of next of kin.
